It was a hot day at the Sahara Desert and the 100 or so camels were awaiting tourists to sit on them as they did their daily walk.
I was guided to a Camel on which I climbed on to and sat behind the hump. 
As we trotted, up and down, across the Sahara desert, I asked the guide if the camel had a name to which he responded ‘No’. And so, like parents to a child, I officially named him ‘Bertie’. The guide seemed to find this rather amusing. I hope the name stuck to this very day.
I’d like to say that the camel responded to every request under the name ‘Bertie, but this was not the case. When the guide let go of the rope, Bertie decided that he would take me a different route.
Did you know that God asks you to travel through life with him? To travel a different route.
The world might lead us in a particular direction. A route that often says money, fame, sex, power, status and self importance are the answers to a fulfilled life. You only need to check newspapers, TV and magazines to see how this route is destructive.
But God wants to take us on a journey far more interesting. Far more adventurous than we could ever imagine.
He doesn’t promise a smooth ride, in fact sometimes it’s bumpier than on a camel, but he promises that he will never leave us and the journey will be worthwhile.
All of this is backed up by some powerful words of Jesus.
‘A thief comes to steal and destroy, but I have come that you may have life and life in all it’s fullness’
Which route are you taking? Do you require a change of direction? Let God be your guide.
