So all day today, I’ve been thinking of my response to trick or treaters. After all, if they come knocking at my door, I am within full rights to respond however I wish!
People in costumes that come to my house once a year don’t scare me. They used to, but then I discovered Santa isn’t real. (Sorry kids!)
Here are some of my ideas of how to respond to the door knocks this evening:
1) As they open the door, I stand in the top bedroom with the window open and pour water on their heads.
2) I open the door and chase them with a terrifying mask on.
3) I don’t answer the door, I switch off all the lights and have a recording playing of people screaming, with a few costume remains left outside the door.
Its a strange moment – answering the door to what you expect to be a bunch of teenagers in masks. I mean, what do you say?
“Hello, how can I help?”
“Hello, you little devils!”
It got me thinking around the idea of answering doors?
God says, ‘I stand at the door and knock’ – God knocks at the door of our lives and he waits for us to answer. He doesn’t force his way in, he isn’t there to scare you or strike you down with lightening bolts.
He doesn’t have any tricks or pranks to play, but he has plans to give you more than you ever thought or expected of your life.
His agenda for us is that we live the most energizing, adventurous and exciting life, just as he created it to be.
Perhaps your response is to leave the door closed, switch off the lights and ignore the fact that God is knocking.
Or maybe, there’s something within you that wants to live this abundant life and be in friendship with your creator. Maybe there’s a situation that looks impossible to solve – Why not give God a try?
God thinks you are incredible. He values you and he wants to live life with you.
