Builders arrived this week to do some work opposite our house. They arrived with their huge vehicles, their hard hats and trousers that slip down too far. They look like builders, they act like builders and most importantly, they speak like builders.
They have that hard core, west country, masculine tone to their voice and don’t often smile or make polite gestures.
Now, I know this is generalizing a bit and I am sure that there are many friendly builders out there, but certainly not on our doorstep.
Their task, from what I understand is to build on what is currently a large slope of overgrown bushes. This means that I am arriving home to see a large vehicle / machine towering over me, looking like it called slide towards my face at any moment!
So their initial task is to flatten the slope making it suitable to build on. This of course, results in lots of mud which they somehow managed to get splattered all over the front of our house and our neighbors house, which is on the opposite side. I reckon one builder
just got a tad excited and put a load of mud in their ‘blower machine’ (I just invented that) and aimed it at our house whilst laughing like a cartoon villain.
The slope and builder business reminded me of an illustration in the bible. The bible talks of a foolish man who build his house on the sand. Of course when the storms came and the rain poured down, his house fell apart. It lacked the solid foundation that it needed. In comparison to this, we have a wise man who built his house on the rock. Of course, because of the solid foundation, nothing could make this house fall.
When we put our lives in God’s hand, it’s like our lives being built on a rock.
Jesus is the solid rock on which I stand. He is my firm foundation.
When life gets tough, I will not be shaken. When others let me down, he is reliable. When we hit rock bottom, Jesus is there and he is willing to help.
Why not rebuild your life on God, the solid rock, today? All you need to do is ask him, ‘God, reveal yourself to me. Be my rock and my solid foundation’ (And then let me know so I can journey with you)
You have nothing to lose, but everything to gain.
